What these reviews are
Every review on this page answers the same questions in the same order: what the tool costs once the limits are counted, whether a code you print keeps working, what the free tier really hands you, and what the analytics, design and support are worth. Scores come from 7 weighted criteria, each tied to a dated observation. Free downloads get decoded, pricing pages get read in a rendered browser, and the dates distinguish general reviews from focused checks. When we were wrong, the correction is on the page with its date.

Corrections, dated
August 10, 2026: Uniqode was re-scored after a rendered re-check showed four priced tiers that a first manual session had missed; its review now opens on that correction. The same day, Flowcode was re-scored for the same rendering reason. Both moved up. The policy is on the About page: errors get fixed, and the fix gets a date on the page.
September 4, 2026: the QRCG by Bitly review, the Oh My Code comparison and the statistics page dated Bitly's purchase of Egoditor to March 2026. Bitly announced it on December 1, 2021; April 2026 was the rebrand. Fixed on all three pages, with the note in the review's FAQ.
How we test
- Review scope, declared per tool. Public documentation read in a rendered browser and dated; free-flow tests recording creation, download attempts and any completed decode checks; targeted tests of specific behavior; account-level tests for features behind a login. Each review states what was actually completed.
- Decode checks inspect the destination. A downloaded image can contain your destination or a vendor's redirect. Reviews record completed decode checks and blocked downloads; a visual preview alone does not establish what the exported code contains.
- Evidence carries a date. Screenshots of pricing pages and generators are taken on the day, captioned with it, and embedded where the review makes the claim.
- Check dates belong to their scope. Our target is a monthly review. The dates show the checks completed, including older records and focused updates. A new pricing or policy check does not refresh the rest of a tool’s evidence.
- One grid for everyone. The same 7 criteria and weights score every tool, published on the methodology page. No vendor pays to be here, and none can opt out.
Same data, other cuts
The numbers behind these reviews also drive the overall ranking, the free-tier guide (which codes stay free after you print), the pricing index (every entry tier, monthly and annual, side by side), the head-to-head comparisons and the statistics page.
Frequently asked questions
How do you test QR code generators?
We record the scope of each review: 4 free-flow tests (creation and download attempts), 3 targeted test, 2 full account tests and 8 documentation reviews. A free-flow test does not verify paid features. Each criterion identifies hands-on observations or public documentation, with a separate provisional label when further verification is needed. The review describes the steps completed and any download or decode limitations.
Are these reviews independent?
We sell nothing on this site, run no affiliate links and accept no payment and no favors from any vendor: no sponsorship, no commission, no placement. Vendors may send corrections and trial or demo access, which we use to verify a product, never to score it. Outbound links to the tools are editorial links that earn us nothing. Every tool goes through the same seven-criterion grid, and every criterion states its evidence and verification limits. Reviews are signed QRBench Editorial; the person behind it is named on the About page.
Which QR code generator has the best review?
On the current grid, Oh My Code leads the overall ranking at 8.2 out of 10, with its pricing verified on September 29, 2026. The complete ranking with the podium and the comparison table is on the home page; if your question is narrower, such as the best free option or the best fit for a small business, the best-of guides select tools for those needs using the same data.
How often are the reviews updated?
We aim to recheck pricing and features monthly; that is a review schedule, not a claim that every tool is current. General check dates across these 17 tools range from August 7–September 29, 2026. Price checks and selected topic checks are listed separately. “Page updated” dates changes to the page, including text, tables and presentation. A new page date does not mean every vendor was tested again. Corrections are dated where they appear.
Do you review free QR code generators?
Yes, and the free tier is where we look hardest, because it is where marketing and product drift apart most. We use decode checks to distinguish direct destinations from vendor redirects. In August 2026, a download advertised as free with no sign-up turned out to encode a redirect on the vendor's own domain, with a seven-day life per its FAQ. The free-tier guide compares static and dynamic offers, including their expiry and scan conditions.
What does the score out of 10 mean?
A weighted average of 7 criteria (Pricing & value 20%, Trust & transparency 20%, Ease of use 15%, Design & customization 12.5%, Dynamic QR & advanced features 15%, Analytics & tracking 12.5%, Support & documentation 5%), each scored from a dated observation written into the tool's data file. The overall number is recomputed from those criterion scores every time the site is built; it is never stored or adjusted by hand. The methodology page publishes reference anchors at 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10. Criterion scores are editorial assessments, including provisional ones; only the weighted total is mechanical.
