No QR generator gets searched by name more often than Canva’s, and that is not a verdict on the tool. It is a verdict on where people already are. Nobody goes looking for a QR platform. They are building a flyer, a menu or a table tent, and there is a QR panel three clicks away.
So this review is not really about whether Canva makes good codes. It is about the question every user arrives at eventually, usually once the design is finished and the code is already sitting in the middle of it. Why is Canva’s logo inside my QR code, and how do I take it out? We read their documentation on August 7, 2026. The answer is shorter than anyone wants.
Update, September 15, 2026. Canva’s help centre now documents two QR tools instead of one: Static QR Codes, with a fixed link and no Canva logo, alongside the Dynamic QR codes this review was written about, which Canva says are powered by Hovercode. Scheduled expiry dates and collaborator editing have appeared as Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit features. The sections below carry dated notes where the August record changed; the scores are unchanged until the next verification round. The two design suites’ QR tools are set side by side in Canva vs Adobe Express.
What Canva’s QR code generator is
It is a feature of the Canva editor, not a standalone product. No separate dashboard, no QR pricing page, no plan sold on code volume. You open a design, click Apps in the left sidebar, search “QR code”, and pick the app published by Canva itself. Paste a link, generate, place it on the canvas. Since September 2026, searching “QR code” under Elements also offers two buttons, Create static and Create dynamic.
The dynamic codes are the surprising part. The destination lives on a redirect, run by Hovercode according to Canva’s help centre read September 15, 2026, rather than inside the pattern, so you can change where it points after the design is printed. Canva’s FAQ describes these codes as valid forever, read August 7, 2026, and the free plan carries no code quota, no scan cap and no expiry date. On volume alone, that is the most generous free dynamic offer in our index. Most competitors cap free dynamic codes at two or three, and several switch them off on a published date.
The limits are on type and access. URL only: no WiFi, no vCard, no plain text, no file or menu hosting. An account is required, unlike the free static tools. Exports run PNG, JPG, SVG and PDF, all on the free plan, which is a better format list than several paid QR platforms manage.
The static tool, documented September 15, 2026, takes the same URL and returns a fixed code with colour and margin options, no logo, no tracking and no editing afterwards. Canva says neither kind can be converted into the other.
The logo you cannot remove
Canva places its own logo in the center of the code. Not on the page around it, not in a corner of the export. In the middle of the pattern, at the spot where a brand would normally put its own mark.
That happens on the free plan, which is defensible. It also happens on Canva Pro at 12 euros a month, which is not. Pro buys premium suite content and AI tools, and it changes nothing about your QR code: the logo stays, the analytics stay locked.
Removing the mark means moving up to Business or Enterprise, per the help centre.
Correction, September 15, 2026. In August we read this as Canva’s site disagreeing with itself, because the pricing page we saw sold a plan called Pro+ while the QR documentation said Business. Read again on September 15, the US storefront and the help centre call the tier Business, at US$250 a year, and the French storefront sells the same slot, with the same description and the same framing as the successor to Canva Teams, as Pro+ at 170 euros a year. One plan, two regional names. We have not verified inside a Pro+ account that the QR unlocks follow the name.
What it costs you depends on where the code lands. Inside a deck shared with your team, the mark is invisible. Printed on a product box, a shop window, a conference banner or a wine label, it is another company’s logo occupying the visual center of your artwork, at the exact point a customer looks at while holding up a phone. That is a brand decision rather than a feature gap, and it is better made deliberately than discovered at the printer. Canva puts its mark in the center of the pattern; The QR Code Generator also watermarks its free static file, in the corner.
There is a technical cost as well. Any logo in the middle of a code covers modules and leans on the format’s error correction to stay readable. Canva sizes its mark to stay inside that tolerance, and the crafting tutorials we reviewed report codes that scan. But that margin is now spent, and it is the same margin that would otherwise absorb a scuffed print, a curved surface or a bad scanning angle. Scan-test the finished artwork on two devices before it goes to production.
The free way out, since September 2026, is Canva’s static tool: static codes never include the Canva logo, and their link is fixed for good.
Free forever, with conditions
The forever claim is real and deserves crediting. Canva’s FAQ says the codes are valid forever, read August 7, 2026. There is no trial countdown, no expiry date and no scan ceiling behind the free plan, which puts it ahead of four platforms whose own help centers publish the date your codes switch off, checked the same day. In this market, that sentence is rare enough to write plainly.
Several conditions sit underneath it.
Canva can deactivate a code whose destination violates its content guidelines. That is a reasonable abuse policy, and it is also a switch that exists. No static code has one. We read that sentence on August 10, 2026; the article we read on September 15 no longer carries it, so we keep it dated.
Static and dynamic codes cannot be converted into each other, in either direction. Old artwork stays what it was.
Only the person who created a code can edit its link. On a team, that ties the destination of a printed campaign to one account, and to whoever still has access to it after someone leaves. Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit owners can turn on collaborator editing, per the help centre read September 15, 2026; below those plans the rule stands.
Since September 2026, a dynamic code can also be given an expiry date and a fallback URL by its owner, on those same plans. Without one, Canva says the code never expires.
And there is no scan data at all below Business and Enterprise. Zero on Free, zero on Pro. If tracking matters and enterprise pricing does not fit, the workaround is the one we detail in our free QR guide: send the code to a URL you own, attach UTM parameters, and read the scans as sessions in your own analytics.
What it does well
Everything around the code, which is the actual reason this tool gets searched more than any dedicated QR platform.
You get the full Canva editor: template library, brand colors, layout, typography, and the code behaving as an object inside the design rather than as a PNG you import and hope you sized right. Four export formats including SVG means one file serves both a social post and a printer that wants vector.
The workflow keeps the code inside the design, without a separate download and re-import step. WebsitePlanet’s walkthrough confirms the whole path takes about a minute and needs no Pro plan, and a Cricut crafting channel uses the same route for vinyl work, calling the codes permanent, which matches Canva’s own wording. Both tutorials close on the same instruction we would give: keep contrast high, and scan-test on two devices before committing.
Who it fits, and who should skip it
It fits people already working in Canva who need a URL code inside a design and genuinely do not mind a Canva logo in it. Internal documents, event slides, a class handout, a community flyer, a social graphic. It also fits anyone who needs an editable destination on no budget at all, because free dynamic codes with no expiry are scarce and this is the largest supply of them, provided the mark is acceptable where the code will be printed.
Skip it for packaging, signage, product labels and anywhere your brand is paying for the space, unless the link is permanent and the static tool will do. Skip it if you need a content type other than URL, because WiFi, vCard and the rest are not in the product. And skip it if scan analytics are part of the brief and Business or Enterprise pricing is not.
Alternatives worth comparing
For the other design suite with a QR feature built in, our Canva vs Adobe Express comparison sets the two side by side: Adobe’s code is static, URL-only, never expires and takes your own logo; Canva’s dynamic code is the only editable one of the pair.
For a code with no logo and no account, QR Code Monkey makes static codes that no vendor can switch off, with a center slot you fill with your own mark or leave empty.
For free dynamic codes without a vendor logo, our best free QR code generators guide covers Hovercode, which gives three dynamic codes on a free plan with no signup and nothing stamped into the pattern. Fewer codes than Canva, and none of them advertising someone else.
