Best dynamic QR code generators in 2026: editable codes, priced and tested
Published · Page updated · By QRBench Editorial
The verdict
Oh My Code is our pick for most people needing editable QR codes and advanced analytics, with monthly and one-time plans. Choose Uniqode for enterprise analytics, Hovercode for 3 free dynamic codes without a scan cap, or Scanova for its clear pricing grid.
Every dynamic code depends on the provider keeping its redirect active. Check the plan’s scan limits and cancellation policy before printing; a one-time payment removes renewals, not that dependency.
The picks, by need
Scores rate the whole product on our common grid; the line under each score names our evidence and how many marks are provisional. A lower score can still be the right pick for its need.
Best dynamic QR for most people
Tested by us · partial trial account: destination edit, device routing, scan-limit expiry
Dynamic codes with advanced analytics from $4.99 a month or $25 a year, and one-time plans at $59 and $169 that take the renewal out of the equation. Free static export verified hands-on August 7, 2026; pricing re-read August 10.
Best for enterprise teams
From the vendor's pages · published plans; no account tested
The highest analytics mark in our index, 15 dynamic codes from $9 a month billed yearly, and the longest compliance list we tracked. No monthly billing, no free tier, a 14-day trial. Verified August 10, 2026.
Best free dynamic
From the vendor's pages · published free and paid plans; dashboard not tested
3 dynamic codes free for life with no scan cap, no watermark and no ads shown to the person scanning, then 100 codes for 11 EUR a month. Hosted in Frankfurt. Verified August 10, 2026.
Clearest grid, unlimited scans
From the vendor's pages · published plans and trial FAQ; no account tested
$5 a month billed yearly buys 3 dynamic codes with unlimited scans, every tier is published with its limits, and the trial FAQ says plainly that trial codes stop at day 14. A $150 one-time plan covers a single code. Verified August 10, 2026.
Best for EU buyers
Tested by us · free static file decoded; dynamic code not tested
One free dynamic code that never expires, capped at 50 scans a day, then 5 codes with unlimited scans for 5 EUR a month billed yearly. Expiry rules written in plain sentences, full Austrian imprint, German hosting. Verified August 28, 2026.
Best for campaign attribution
From the vendor's pages · published plans; dashboard not tested
2 free dynamic codes with a lifetime scan promise that applies to every tier, 50 codes for $25 a month billed yearly, CRM and webhook integrations. Enterprise pricing is demo-gated. Verified August 10, 2026.
A dynamic QR code does not contain your web address. It contains a short link on the vendor’s domain, and the vendor’s server decides where that link goes: that is what lets you change the destination after printing and count scans, and why the first question to ask about a dynamic QR code generator is what happens to the printed code when you stop paying. Static codes are covered in our free generators guide, scan reports in our analytics guide, and every score in the full ranking.
Oh My Code: editable codes, with a one-time option
Tested by us · partial trial account: destination edit, device routing, scan-limit expiry
Oh My Code’s Friendly plan covers 2 codes and 500 scans a month; The Boss, $14.99 a month, lifts codes, scans and users to unlimited, and both are also sold once. In our partial trial-account test on September 21, destination editing, device routing and a one-scan expiry limit worked in the scenarios we checked. Reports, pixels, the API and post-trial behavior are untested, some scores are still provisional, and there is no permanent free dynamic tier. Uniqode: the enterprise pick
From the vendor's pages · published plans; no account tested
Uniqode’s compliance list covers SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA, ISO, SSO and two-factor, and the entry commitment is $108 paid upfront. Trial codes deactivate after 14 days without a subscription, per the pricing FAQ on its sister site; we have not tested that in an account. Uniqode review
Hovercode: 3 free dynamic codes for life
From the vendor's pages · published free and paid plans; dashboard not tested
Hovercode shows no ads, pop-ups or branding to the person scanning, per its own pages, and keeps data in Frankfurt with a DPA available. Per its FAQ, codes created beyond the first three expire if the subscription is canceled; the first three do not. Hovercode review
Scanova: the clearest grid, with unlimited scans
From the vendor's pages · published plans and trial FAQ; no account tested
Scanova’s Basic plan, the 3-code one, costs $60 upfront and is annual only; monthly billing starts at $15 on Lite, and the $150 Ultra Lite plan buys one dynamic code with lifetime validity. Scanova review
QR Planet: the pick for EU buyers
Tested by us · free static file decoded; dynamic code not tested
QR Planet’s imprint names the company, its registration number and the CEO, and its no-ads commitment is written down. Starter, the 5-code plan, is also sold quarterly at 6.25 EUR a month, but not monthly. Our free static download decoded straight to our link; the analytics depth is the vendor’s claim rather than our measurement. QR Planet review
Flowcode: the pick for campaign attribution
From the vendor's pages · published plans; dashboard not tested
Flowcode suits campaign teams that treat the code as the top of a funnel. Pro Plus, the 50-code plan, is also sold monthly at $60; the enterprise line is usage based and demo gated, with no published price. Flowcode review

Alphabetical. Entry plan: the cheapest paid QR tier of each tool, with both billing periods. “Capped” means the plan publishes a scan limit; the figure and its unit (per month, per code) are in each review. †Entry-plan caveat (billing term or suite product), spelled out on that tool's row in the pricing index. Ads, expiry and scan limits of free offers are detailed in the free offers table.

What happens to your code when you stop paying?
Several vendors write that trial codes stop redirecting when the trial ends, and some that paid codes stop when the plan expires. A few promise a small number of free codes for life.
Stops, per the vendor’s pages. QR Tiger’s FAQ: “Dynamic QRs have unlimited scans with a valid subscription. If your plan expires, it will stop working,” with data kept up to a year. Scanova’s trial FAQ: “Your Dynamic QR Code will stop working once the free trial ends.” QR Code Generator by Bitly trial codes “deactivate automatically when the trial period finishes,” per its blog. Uniqode trial codes “will stop redirecting users” until a subscription is activated, per the pricing FAQ of its sister site; we have not tested one through expiry. That sister brand, The QR Code Generator, keeps two free codes alive after the trial with a 3-second ad on every scan, and its help center says cancellation deactivates every dynamic code on the account. QRFY stores codes for three months after the trial but keeps them inaccessible until you subscribe, and a renewal “cannot be cancelled once it has been carried out.” QR.io pauses trial codes at day 7 and reactivates them on upgrade. QRStuff keeps paid codes live “provided the subscription continues to be paid for,” and its documentation gives three different rules for what follows a cancellation.
What we saw. Our QRFY and QR.io trial codes both showed a deactivation page on October 1, day 8. Our free QRStuff code, created August 18, had stopped working by day 10.
Promised to last. Hovercode (three codes), Flowcode (every tier, Free included) and QR Planet (one code, 50 scans a day) promise free codes or scans for life; paid QR Planet customers can ask for retention after a year. Canva calls its codes valid forever but can deactivate one whose destination breaks its guidelines.
Inactivity rule. Per its FAQ, ME-QR can block codes after 365 days without a scan, registered users’ included; they get a warning and a one-month recovery period before deletion.

Trials, ads and other catches
Beyond the trial codes that stop described above, three catches are worth checking. ME-QR’s free tier is paid for by interstitial ads shown to whoever scans your code. Canva’s free dynamic code carries a Canva logo you cannot remove without a Business or Enterprise plan. QR Tiger’s homepage generator sent us to the pricing page instead of a download, three times, on the anonymous free static path in August; with a free account in September, our downloads worked.
If the destination never changes, use a static code: free, no account at the tools we recommend, and nothing anyone can switch off. If it might change, or you need scan counts, use a dynamic code on a plan you will keep, or a one-time plan such as Oh My Code’s, which removes the renewal but still depends on the vendor’s servers. For something printed in the thousands, a static code pointing at a short path on a domain you own avoids that dependency. The free generators guide covers static options by need; the small business picks weigh both for a shop that buys once.
Frequently asked questions
What is a dynamic QR code?
A QR code whose pattern encodes a short redirect link on the vendor's domain rather than your destination. Because the destination lives on the vendor's server, you can change it after printing and count the scans. The trade is dependency: the code only resolves while the vendor keeps that redirect alive, which on most paid tools means while you keep paying.
Do dynamic QR codes expire?
They get deactivated rather than expiring. QR Tiger's FAQ says a dynamic code stops working if the plan expires, Scanova's says trial codes stop at day 14, QRfy locks codes at the end of its 7-day trial, QR.io pauses them at day 7, and QR Code Generator by Bitly deactivates trial codes when the 14-day trial finishes, each read on the vendor's own pages in August 2026. Free codes at Hovercode (3), Flowcode (2) and QR Planet (1) are promised for life. QRStuff's free code died on day 10 in our own test.
Which dynamic QR code generator is free?
Four tools publish a permanent free dynamic tier with a stated cap: Hovercode with 3 codes, Flowcode with 2, QR Planet with 1 at 50 scans a day, and The QR Code Generator with 2 that show a 3-second ad to the person scanning. Canva's free dynamic codes carry a forced Canva logo, and ME-QR lists 10,000 free codes with ads and a 365-day inactivity condition. QR Tiger advertises 3 free dynamic codes at 500 scans each; we have not verified what happens to them. Everything else is a trial: 14 days at Oh My Code, Uniqode, Scanova and QR Code Generator by Bitly, 15 days at QR Planet for paid features, 7 days at QRfy and QR.io, and 7 days without an account at QRStuff.
How much does a dynamic QR code cost?
On the entry paid plan, read on each vendor's pricing page in August 2026: $4.99 a month at Oh My Code for 2 codes, $5 a month billed yearly at Scanova for 3 codes with unlimited scans, 5 EUR a month billed yearly at QR Planet for 5 codes, 8 EUR billed yearly at QR Code Generator by Bitly for 2 codes, $9 billed yearly at Uniqode for 15 codes, 11 EUR at Hovercode for 100 codes, and $39.99 a month on monthly billing at QR.io. These are different billing periods and currencies, not a cheapest-to-most-expensive ranking. Some entry plans have no monthly price even when a higher tier offers monthly billing. Our pricing index lists every entry price with both billing periods and the date we read it.
Can I buy a dynamic QR code once instead of subscribing?
Two of the tools we track sell a one-time plan, read on their pricing pages on August 10, 2026: Oh My Code at $59 for 2 dynamic codes and $169 for unlimited codes, scans and users, and Scanova at $150 for a single dynamic code with Lite features. A one-time plan removes the renewal, not the dependency: the code still resolves through the vendor's servers, so the bet moves from your subscription to the vendor staying in business.
Should I use a dynamic or a static QR code?
Static if the destination will never change: it costs nothing, encodes your URL directly and cannot be switched off. Dynamic if the destination might move or you need scan counts, and then only on a plan you intend to keep, or a one-time plan. A third route costs nothing: put a short path on a domain you own in a static code and manage the redirect yourself. Our free generators guide covers the static side.
Updates, corrections and sources
- Page reorganized for readers: policy reading dates, check dates and corrections moved to folds and to this section. The verdict, picks and FAQ are unchanged. The cancellation section now includes our expiry-watch observations of October 1 for QRFY and QR.io. QR Tiger: added that downloads worked with a free account on September 29; the August redirect to pricing concerned the anonymous path. The “Static or dynamic” section was merged into “Trials, ads and other catches”. Remarks about vendor roundups were cut.
- Correction (Uniqode trial policy): the Uniqode pick previously described its trial-expiry policy as unknown even though the policy was documented elsewhere on this page. The pick now reflects that source. ME-QR's inactivity condition also applies to registered users.
